5 Golden Rules of Website Goals
All of your website goals (whether big or little) should be SMART:
1. Specific
Your goals need to be specific, so that you are precisely clear on what needs to be done. Who, What, When, How questions are helpful in setting these goals. "Sell 500 widgets via the website by the end of June" is a specific goal. How specific are your goals? Ask us.
2. Measurable
If you can't measure a goal then it's not a goal. A football goal measures 5x2 metres - anything that goes between the posts is a goal, anything that misses is not - there is no in-between. Your website goals should be marked by the same unquestionable clarity so that you know when a goal has been achieved. Speak to our team about how to set and measure clear goals for your website.
3. Achievable
Set a figure that is realistic - don't expect to achieve Amazon's online turnover after year one. If you keep hitting challenging targets and keep raising the bar your website will really start doing the business for you. If you set goals too high you'll never hit them and they will become meaningless and disheartening. Knowing what's achievable in the future depends mainly on where you are now with your web strategy. 4. Relevant
Will achieving your goals make the difference to your business that you want? It's easy to lose sight of what you're trying to do, so remember to check the relevance of your goals and how they fit into your overall strategy.
5. Time-framed
Remember to put a time-frame on your goals, otherwise you'll never know if you've achieved them!
