The Liposuction Industry Pricing Guide
Liposuction, also called lipoplasty, liposculpture, fat removal or lipo is a surgical procedure to remove fat cells from the body. The cost of liposuction can vary greatly due to many variable factors. Liposuction prices are determined by which part of the body the operation is performed on. Liposculpture can be performed anywhere on the body but the most common areas are the upper and lower abdomen, the arms, back, breasts, buttocks, the face, hips, neck, inner and outer thighs and the waist. Generally, surgery on the abdomen and breasts cost more than anywhere else. Cheap liposuction in the UK tends to range from £1,000 to £5,000. The location and type of clinic has a massive influence on liposuction prices. Larger clinics have economies of scale and can perform many operations and therefore can offer cheaper prices, whereas smaller clinics that are more specialised will have much less number of patients and will charge a bit more. A clinic in the heart of London will definitely charge more for liposuction than the average UK cost, whereas a clinic in a small, less commercial town, could charge an average or below average fee because their business costs will be much lower. Other things that play a large factor in liposuction price include the size of the patient because larger patients are harder to operate on and normally want more fat removal. The price of the surgery will be proportionate to the amount of time and effort required from the surgeon. There will also be a fee from the anaesthesiologist and the medication that is used. Some will recommend both general and local anaesthetic and this will cost more. Furthermore, there will be fees for the operating room, pre-operative labs, nurses and overnight stays. These are normally incorporated into the overall price but in some cases you will need to make additional payments. Finally, there is a cost to elastic compression garments. All of these issues should be discussed at the primary consultation, where patients should be quoted an exact fee for the procedure. It is very difficult to compare liposuction prices because of all of these variables, including other difficult to measure factors such as the skill and experience of the surgeon. For this reason, quotes for any type of cosmetic surgery cannot be exact because clinics cannot determine the exact needs and therefore their own costs until the patient has a full consultation.
