Collagen Lip Injection Information

Why have Collagen Lip Injections?

This is an injection that allows the patient to temporarily have lips that are increased in size to give a pout effect. Each injection will last up to six months and patients need to have two or three further treatments each year to maintain the increase as the collagen is absorbed into the body. It is therefore an ideal treatment for those who do not permanently wish to commit to having full lips permanently. These injections make the lips look fuller and can reduce the look of any fine lines around the lips. As well as this any wrinkles that appear on the lips caused by ageing can be lessened with this type of treatment.

What does the Treatment Involve?

The injections are normally given on a 'walk-in' basis meaning that patients have the injections administered almost immediately after tests have been carried out to ensure that there will be no allergic reaction. The whole procedure will take around ten minutes and the patient can then return to normal activities straight away. There is no sedation or anaesthetic required as the injections contain their own anaesthetic. It is unusual for patients to require pain killers after the procedure even though it is usual to have some swelling and bruising for up to a week afterwards.

Are there any Side Effects to the Treatment?

The main problem that can be experienced after the treatment is an allergic reaction. This can cause swelling of the lips together with redness or itching around the point of the injection. If any reaction is noted during the initial test then treatment will not be carried out. It is also normal for a small amount of discomfort to be experienced during the injection. Any swelling the injection may cause will normally settle down within a few days. In general this procedure is one of the safest treatments available and as such, is becoming one of the most popular.

How much will the Treatment Cost?

These injections currently start from approximately £250 each and as follow up injections are needed to maintain the plumped appearance, the cost of treatment can soon mount up. Although this can make treatment seem expensive, the cost of collagen injections can still be up to three times less expensive than some of the other comparable options. There are two types of collagen injections available with the bovine-derived option costing less than the human-derived one which carries fewer risks.
