Affordable Solar Energy for Homes

Why should I consider getting Solar Energy for my home?

From an environmental point of view getting Solar Energy as part of your energy system in your hope is a very good step. It will mean that your use of electricity and gas is not coming solely from non-renewable energy sources that have a damaging environmental effect. Moreover, once the solar energy systems (be it Solar panels or Solar Water Heating tubes) are in place they produce power which is essentially free. As soon as the panels are in place they will begin paying for themselves by lessening your heating and electricity bills.

Solar Energy is expensive to have set up - is it worth it?

The technology used in Solar Energy for homes was once prohibitively expensive for most people, but the technology is getting much more affordable. As the use of renewable energy sources has become more popular around the world as the damaging effects of other energy sources has become apparent, more and more people have been looking to do their bit by using renewable energy wherever possible. Because of this many new companies have begun to manufacture solar panelling systems and this competition has driven down the price. Using solar energy is good for the environment and, in the long term, will save your household money.

Solar Energy is something I'm interested in, but I don't think I can afford it - is there help available?

On February 1st 2010 the British Government introduced a tariff incentive to encourage people to install solar panels to limit the amount of power that they are using from the National Grid. Once your panels are installed you will essentially be paid to produce electricity so your initial outlay will be paid back much quicker than before. Because of this tariff many companies have started to offer to panel your roof with solar cells for free which is an amazing opportunity. The money they make from the government tariff covers their costs and gives you the opportunity of using solar energy to heat and power your home. The only downside is that the 'free' electricity is only available during the day with this scheme at night the supply will again be charged through the national grid, so if you are not at home during the day you will not make the most of the saving. However, simply by having the panels you are producing clean power and limiting the country's reliance on generated electricity.
